Risk education
At MIPS we have a suite of risk management activities for all our members.
Choices include education workshops, online risk education modules, webinars, vodcast risk management essentials series, hospital employed risk seminars and student risk seminars. These events are offered at no charge for current members and most attract CPD points.
Workshops
These workshops have been developed with the specific needs of our members in mind. Presented by MIPS and/or specialist risk management consultants, the aim of MIPS workshops is to help members develop skills in identifying risks and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
Online modules
MIPS online risk education modules provide a convenient alternative for members who are unable to attend risk education workshops due to location or time commitments. From the comfort of home or office, members can participate in risk management activities whilst also gaining CPD (2 Category 2 QI &CPD, RACGP members only) and/or meeting the PSS risk management requirement. Online risk education modules available are:
- Health Records
- Open Disclosure
- Dealing with Difficult Patients
- Risks for International Medical Graduates
The online modules can be accessed here. You will need to “sign up” for online education using your MIPS member number as your username and creating a password (at least 6 characters containing 1 number).
Hospital employed and student seminars
MIPS is actively involved in risk management activities at major hospital campuses and universities. Along with offering tailored seminars to suit you, experienced MIPS clinicians present a range of topics, including
- communication essentials including open disclosure
- limit risks to your patient and you
- dealing with difficult patients

These are a condensed version of our Risk Management Essentials online modules. These short video files can be viewed online. They provide a succinct and ongoing resource for some of the most important risk management aspects for all health professionals.
