Since 2003 MIPS has been providing membership benefits to dental members and their staff.  These provisions satisfy AHPRA's requirement for professional indemnity.

In addition to our professional indemnity policy (MIPS members medical indemnity policy), we provide dental members with a wide range of member benefits including MIPS' unique discretionary protections for non-professional indemnity matters and access to special offers.

MIPS protections

MIPS Protections* covers a number of non-medical indemnity professional and business risks that may not be otherwise covered by insurance arrangements. It entitles members to ask that the MIPS Board consider providing protection for claims that arise from risks connected with a member’s practice of his/her profession or healthcare educational activities in Australia.

Medico-legal support (24/7 helpline)

MIPS members are provided timely, knowledgeable, professional and confidential support from experienced and sympathetic colleagues on medico-legal matters – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Members don’t need to be under threat of litigation to call the MIPS advice line. Approximately 90% of requests for assistance that MIPS receive are concerned with problems unrelated to litigation. MIPS medico-legal advisers can help members with:

  • ethical issues
  • potential or actual complaints by patients (to members directly, or to their employer/hospital)
  • complaints by employer(s)
  • the preparation of coroner’s reports (and similar medico-legal reports)
  • Health Services and Health Care Complaints Commission matters
  • other medico-legal matters
