BeAWARE program

education for non clinical staff

Members are alerted to this important initiative of the National Heart Foundation of Australia and the National Stroke Foundation.

BeAWARE of the warning signs of heart attack and stroke is a practice triage strategy to support non-clinical staff to promptly identify patients who call or attend with warning signs of heart attack and stroke.

BeAWARE consists of three components:

  • A warning signs online learning module for non clinical staff  www.heartfoundation.org.au/online-learning
  • A warning signs desktop “tent card” for your reception area /workstation
  • Warning signs of heart attack and stroke posters for the patient waiting room area.

MIPS believes this information , made available to members in the primary care sector at no cost,  will be beneficial and potentially reduce your medico-legal risk through demonstrating adherence to accreditation standards regarding patient triage and responding to emergency patient presentations.

The Heart Foundation have also developed patient resources that can be handed out by health professionals to patients who have been identified at high risk of heart attack i.e. patients with heart disease or absolute high absolute risk.  These can be found via this link www.heartattackfacts.org.au/action-plan/
