Exceptional Claims Scheme (ECS)

The Government's Exceptional Claims Scheme (ECS) covers doctors for 100% of the cost of private practice claims that are above the limit of their medical indemnity contract of insurance (currently $20 million). The ECS was formally known as the 'Blue Sky' scheme.

How will the ECS be funded?

The ECS will be fully funded by the Government. Doctors will not be required to make a contribution.

Who is eligible?

Doctors whose private practice claims exceed the limit of their MIPS policy - $20 million (in either one large claim, or an aggregate of many claims).
