Paul Alexander

Dr Paul Alexander 

Dr Alexander has extensive clinical experience in general practice, public health administration as well as military and remote medicine. A graduate of Melbourne University with post graduate qualifications in legal medicine, tropical medicine, public health and medical administration. He also has served in the Army for over 30 years’ service including many overseas postings. Paul is MIPS' longer serving clinico-legal advisers and continues in clinical General Practice as well as undertaking medical administration and Board interests. Chris Bolton

Dr Chris Bolton

Chris has worked as a clinico-legal adviser for MIPS for over ten years. Professionally he is a full time practicing paediatric anaesthetist who has worked both in Australia and Canada. He was awarded a PhD in 2005 for his work in the evaluation of quality in clinical practice.

Mark Carswell

Dr Mark Carswell

Mark grew up in Northern Ireland, moved to England, then Wales and now calls Australia home. Mark graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, Imperial College, London. Mark also studied Medical Ethics and Law at Manchester University. He has particular interests in obstetrics (he is a registered shared care GP), paediatrics and dermatology. Mark is one of the newest members of the MIPS clinico-legal adviser team.

Gerrard Clausen

Dr Gerard Clausen

Dr Clausen is a Clinico-Legal Adviser for the Medical Indemnity Protection Society (MIPS). He has vast experience in clinico-legal issues and the delivery of professional development education to health professionals in his role with MIPS and as a dental educator. He is a clinical demonstrator at University of Melbourne for postgraduate prosthodontics. He often presents MIPS professional development dental workshops and webinars.

Margaret Daley

Dr Margaret Daley

Dr Margaret Daley is a graduate of Sydney University and is a general practitioner with over 28 years’ clinical experience. Margaret is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and is an examiner for the College's clinical examinations. She joined MIPS as a Clinico-Legal Adviser in June 2006. Margaret is one of MIPS' Claims Files Managers dealing with claims and notifications. She assists members with their general enquiries as well as supporting and assisting members with their dealings with the Medical Board and the Health Care Complaints Commission.

Nichola Davis

Dr Nichola Davis

Dr Davis is a Clinico-Legal Adviser for the Medical Indemnity Protection Society (MIPS) and the Chairman of the MIPS Claims Senior Management Group. Nichola has extensive experience in clinico-legal issues and the delivery of professional development education to health professionals in her role with MIPS and as a medical educator. A Senior Lecturer at James Cook University School of Medicine and Dentistry, Dr Davis is also a practicing clinician. She is a regular contributor to the MIPS Matters magazine.


Dr Michael Gronow

Michael studied in Melbourne and rose to a senior position in the Reproductive Biology Unit at The Women's Hospital. He then accepted a position in Reproduction Endocrinology and Infertility in the United States, before becoming Lecturer and Senior Registrar at Kings College School of Medicine in London. During this time overseas he gained valuable experience and became widely published in the area of reproduction medicine. Returning to Melbourne, Michael rejoined The Women's Hospital and also holds gynaecology and obstetric positions at the Western Hospital in Sunshine.

Peter Simpson

Dr Peter Simpson

Dr Simpson is a general practitioner with extensive experience in Australian country practice and in Indonesia. He has been part of the medical defence industry since 1997 and has been a MIPS Clinico-Legal Adviser for 13 years. He has a special interest in clinico-legal and risk management matters and continues as a practicing clinician.

John Stanton

Dr John Stanton

Dr John Stanton is a practicing GP in Victoria and a clinico-legal adviser at MIPS.
