Introducing MIPS Health

MIPS-Health-160x90-logo-trans-bkgrndMIPS is proud to announce MIPS Health – an initiative that provides members with access to private health insurance with hospital and extras cover designed with MIPS members and their families in mind.

MIPS Managing Director Dr Troy Browning said that “MIPS Health was developed to look beyond the risks associated with clinical matters and to help promote members' physical and mental wellbeing”.

“We know that health professionals are at higher risk than many other Australians, especially when it comes to mental health and suicide. At MIPS we wanted to provide members with access to private health insurance cover that was not only competitive but also addressed the specific needs of our healthcare practitioner members and their families. At MIPS our role is to protect and support members and we believe that is best achieved by making sure they are both informed and empowered”.

With that in mind, MIPS worked with Australian Unity to conduct some insightful research into the health challenges faced by MIPS members to deliver the MIPS Health offering. Some of the key concerns raised by members were:

  • I don’t know what to do – I’m a doctor/dentist and should know better, but I can’t cope
  • I’m struggling with the pressure and the constant decision‐making
  • My hours mean my social life and my sleep are all messed up
  • I have no work/life balance
  • I think I’ll get a ‘black mark’ against my name or be forced to report to AHPRA if I speak to anyone about my mental health
  • I don’t have enough time to eat well and exercise.

The MIPS Health Coaching Program is what differentiates the MIPS Health offering from other health covers, as it provides a privileged ‘opt-in’ enrolment option into various health support programs associated with members’ hospital cover. The Health Coaching Program is designed to provide members who have hospital cover with goal-based behavioural change coaching over the phone with a qualified clinician.

The focus of health coaching includes equipping you with the tools and strategies to assist with:

  • stress management
  • healthy sleep patterns
  • better diet
  • mind/mood management.

We understand that your confidentiality is important to you when it comes to discussing your health issues. So as well as ensuring confidentiality and privacy our health coaches won’t have AHPRA mandatory reporting requirements so you can take comfort in accessing the support you need.

If you require additional support you can access MindStep®, an evidence-based program to help empower members to reduce symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. To date, 55 per cent of participants in the program have fully recovered and 76 per cent experienced a clinically significant improvement in their symptoms.

MIPS Health’s private health insurance covers plans are eligible to receive the Australian Government Rebate which can help to cover the cost of your premiums. This rebate is income tested, which means your eligibility to receive it depends on your level of household income. MIPS Health cover also includes:

  • a choice from budget to premium hospital cover
  • extras cover options for treatments such as physiotherapy, optical and remedial massage
  • no waiting periods if you’re switching from a cover with similar or higher benefits and transferring to your new cover within 30 days of leaving your old cover
  • flexi limits, so you get to use your extras benefits on the treatments that matter to you most
  • percentage of cost benefits for extras – so you know exactly how much you get back based on the extras cover you have, whether it’s 55, 60 or 70 per cent.
  • a 30 day cooling-off period when you first join
  • up to 100 per cent back on selected preventative dental treatments for covers with No Gap Dental cover (up to yearly limits)
  • on-the-spot claiming (swipe your card) with HICAPS
  • 24/7 online access to your account via Online member Services.
