Webinar: Informed consent – A legal and regulatory requirement
Health practitioners hear a lot about consent. It is often referred to in clinico-legal circles by lawyers who refer to “consent case precedents” and “material risks”. Medical defence organisations refer to the importance of a documented informed consent and its value as a risk mitigation tool. Your regulator AHPRA also have their guidelines and codes around an informed consent. Members have ethical, legal and regulatory obligations to ensure that your patients make voluntary decisions about their medical care with knowledge and understanding of the benefits and risks involved. In summary, for clinico-legal protection , your patients require an educated informed consent.
This webinar relevant to all members, will identify why an informed consent is essential to good healthcare practice and what steps you should take to acquire an appropriate consent from patients within your healthcare practice.
We have enlisted the expertise of solicitor Michael Regos who has over 20 years’ experience as previous Partner of Healthcare Practice at DLA Piper where he led a dedicated legal team defending public hospitals and other health entities in the State of Victoria.
