Farewell Dr Troy Browning, MIPS Managing Director

Following a considered decision by Dr Troy Browning to step down from his roles of Managing Director of MIPS and CEO of MIPS Insurance from 30 August 2019, the MIPS Board has engaged a recruitment firm to search for a replacement.

Dr Troy Browning was among MIPS’ longest serving staff members and over 20 years he contributed to the growth of the organisation to over 55,000 members through a variety of roles and responsibilities. During the past nine years as Managing Director in addition to his role as MIPS Insurance CEO his leadership cemented MIPS as a strong Medical Defence Organisation with enviable financial stability with total assets of approximately $650 million and members' net assets of over $300 million.

This growth and financial strength has enabled MIPS to provide strong defence and support for members.

Among staff at MIPS Troy will be well remembered for his principled approach ensuring that MIPS’ operations met MIPS’ Constitution requirements to protect and support members and to support honourable and discourage irregular practice. He has always focused on minimising harm arising from provision of healthcare to the benefit of individual members, MIPS membership, patients and the wider community.

Troy leaves a committed organisation with very professional staff, a growing membership, and a sector leading solvency/capital adequacy ratio.

Transition arrangements have been put in place and MIPS will make an announcement when a new appointment is made. Mr Roger Miles, Chief Finance Officer will assume the position of Acting CEO.

In the meantime, MIPS is well placed to continue to act in the best interests of its members.

On behalf of MIPS members and staff, farewell and thank you Dr Troy Browning.
