Webinar: Life and times of a rural and remote practitioner

Dr Bryce Nicol, a dedicated rural doctor who is providing crucial medical services to the Queensland community of Winton and has worked hard to rebuild the doctor workforce in the town, last  year received the ACRRM-RDAA Rural Registrar of the Year award. He is keen to impart his experiences of working in remote practice exclusively to MIPS members in this webinar.
For those of you who are currently working in or plan to work in rural and remote practice will benefit greatly from this presentation.

* How to cope working in isolation?
* What to do with drug seeking patients and the 'ice' epidemic?
* Maintaining confidentiality
* Improving community engagement
* Issues faced by overseas doctors - overcoming cultural differences
* Issues faced by young doctors - gaining acceptance and affirmation in a rural town

Dr Nicol will discuss his remote practice and the challenges this brings for young practitioners without ready supervision, easy access to  mentors or collegial support. However, such circumstances, including an eclectic range of patient issues, can in fact be a wonderful and fast learning  experience. Clinico-legal risks will be identified in such practices with the key lessons learnt. This webinar will be a positive reflection on the nuances of rural and remote practice and the patients that can bring.

Learning outcomes
* Identify the challenges and risks of rural and remote practice
* Adapting strategies, including supports, to assist with rural and remote practice
