AI Transparency Statement

Medical Indemnity Protection Society (MIPS) takes the safe and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) seriously. Our use of AI is guided by a commitment to protecting members, delivering value through membership, and upholding the highest professional and ethical standards.

MIPS engages with AI in accordance with Australia’s AI Ethics Principles, with a strong focus on privacy, explainability, and accountability. Our AI practices closely align with the Australian Government’s Voluntary AI Safety Standard.

We invite you to also consider our Privacy Policy.

How We Use AI

MIPS' use of AI is focused on improving workplace productivity and operational efficiency. AI is used to support, not replace, human input and does not independently make consequential decisions regarding indemnity, claims outcomes, or membership status.

Our use of AI is reviewed to ensure it complies with our internal governance frameworks, and outputs are subject to human verification prior to use.

Governance and Oversight

The use of AI at MIPS is overseen by our Executive and Board, ensuring that AI adoption remains safe, transparent, and compliant. A formal AI Governance Policy is in place to ensure that risks such as bias, discrimination, inclusivity, security, and ethical use, are identified and managed.

Training and awareness initiatives ensure that our people understand their responsibilities when engaging with AI, helping safeguard the interests of members and the community.

Looking Ahead

MIPS continues to explore AI’s potential to support our operations and enhance our service to members. Our approach remains cautious and controlled. We are committed to safe, responsible, and ethical AI use that delivers value to our members and aligns with our purpose of supporting and protecting healthcare professionals.

Challenging AI Use or Outcomes

As a responsible adopter of AI, MIPS welcomes feedback from our members and the community regarding our use of AI. We recognise the importance of accountability and provide clear pathways for you to raise concerns or contest any outcomes or interactions that involve AI.

For questions or concerns regarding our AI practices, or to contest an outcome, please contact us on 1300 698 573 (if outside Australia +61 3 8620 8888) or use our online enquiry form.

In unlikely event we cannot address your concern, our internal complaint and dispute resolution process is available free of charge for AI-related disputes. To raise a matter, please contact MIPS on 1300 698 509 or at [email protected].
